Wednesday July 26 at 16:00 (CET) | 9:00 (COT) the first episode of the Webinar organised by ANCI Lazio, dedicated to organic agriculture in urban gardens and their productivity.
In this first meeting, the dialogue between the agronomists Andrés Pacheco, Leandro Dominicis, and the agroecologist Luis Pino, and Joy Venegas, horticulturist and representative of “Micelio Urbano” a urban community garden in Mexico, is foreseen. The challenge of social, cultural and economic sustainability are the background to the dialogue.
Concise contributions from participants and stakeholders are expected.
The meeting will be held mainly in Spanish.

The first Gardeniser PRO Colombia course trained 21 community leaders from 5 neighborhoods in Barranquilla (La Paz, Juan Mina, Las Gardenias, Lipaya, Villa San Pablo) in the role of #Gardeniser (from July 20 to 24, 2023).
Starting from September 2023, trained community leaders will travel to Cali, Medellín, Bogotá (Colombia) and Rome (Italy) to carry out an internship period in an urban community garden and obtain the gardener’s license.
They will be the gardenisers who will support the construction of the first 5 urban community gardens in Barranquilla.
The Gardeniser is a Garden+Organiser or coordinator of #huertaurbanacomunitaria.

Call for Participants Gardeniser PRO Training Course for GenerACTOR Project in Barranquilla (Colombia)

In the framework of the project GenerACTOR – Community gardens as a GenerACTOR for good governance, active citizenship and participation”, supported by the European program EuropeAid, the association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, opened the call for citizens who will participate in the first “Gardeniser Pro Training” placed in Barranquilla July 20th– 24th 2023. The application deadline is the 15th 25 of June at 23:55 (Colombian time).
Parameters of the Gardeniser Pro Training
The course is part of component 1 of the GenerACTOR Project, which deals with capacity building and training in community urban gardens within the framework of the GenerACTOR transnational cooperation project, supported by the European program EuropeAid. This component is coordinated by the Italian social promotion association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, and is being carried out in Barranquilla (Colombia) and in Spanish.
The participants could apply to attend the training course and the internship related, aimed at a maximum of 20 citizens of the municipality of Barranquilla (Colombia) interested in learning or deepening their knowledge to be Gardenisers or “Community Urban Garden Coordinators”. An integral part of the training course is an internship in an urban garden in Colombia (6 days) or in Italy (12 days) in which the Gardeniser can apply the knowledge acquired in the process
The Training has a duration of 5 days (40 hours), and the participant must commit to participate in the five full days and in the internship.

GenerACTOR Training for trainers in Barranquilla (April 28th – May 1st, 2023)
4 days of training for trainers course involving participants from Barranquilla as well as from Cali, Medellin, Puerto Colombia and Bogotà. The training course content included important topics as educational principals, types of learning and the importance of dialogue. The participants also learned about the history of urban community gardens
and about the training format of the Gardeniser pro training course. Finally, the non formal education methodology guided the participants in a wonderful experience of co-creation of the training programme and activities for the next Gardeniser training course, adapted to the local context, that will involve community leaders from Barranquilla supporting the process of construction of the first 4 urban community gardens in Barranquilla

From 6 to 10 February 2023 a study visit will be held in Rome dedicated to learning about the management methods and good practices for the creation of urban community gardens. This initiative is part of the development cooperation project “GenerACTOR – Community gardens as generators for good governance, active citizenship and participation“, co-financed by the European Union (Contract No. CSO-LA/2021/171273 -3/13). 9 representatives of the Municipality of Barranquilla (Colombia) and of Siembra Mas, a company that take care the urban greenery of the city of Barranquilla, will take part, accompanied by experts from ANCI Lazio (project leader), RISORSE PER ROMA, and REPLAY NETWORK APS, an association of educators and trainers which also works to promote the new professional figure of the “Gardeniser”.
During the study days, a total of 7 urban gardens in the city of Rome will be visited by the working group, each with its own specificities. A meeting with the Councilor for the Environment of Roma Capitale, Sabrina Alfonsi is foreseen, and, at the conclusion of the initiative, an evaluation of the experience.
As the project title mentions, the activity insists on the creation of community gardens in the urban area of Barranquilla (Colombia), as a tool for good governance, active citizenship and participation and this meeting will be particularly useful to know the key elements for the design of 4 new community urban gardens in the city of Barranquilla through a participatory process and an ad hoc training activity (Gardeniser).
The implementation of a network strategy as a tool for the exchange of knowledge and sustainability, thus contributes to strengthening the multilevel governance of the city of Barranquilla (Colombia), and provides new insights for each partner on the theme of strategies to reduce poverty levels and food insecurity of the most vulnerable communities, especially migrants, based on innovation and circular economy approaches.

The study of the pilot areas for community urban gardens, the dialogue with local communities through the established Urban Local Group in Barranquilla, the experiences carried out in Europe on the regulation of the urban gardens and the theme of adaptation in Colombia, and finally, the first results of the training activity through the approach to the new professional figure of the Gardeniser. The courses are part of component 1 of the GenerACTOR Project, which deals with capacity building and training in community gardens within the framework of the GenerACTOR transnational cooperation project, co-funded by the European Union. The call is open for the first 4 training modules :
- Garden space design and planning
- The soil cycle, its feeding and regeneration (microorganisms, minerals and organic matter)
- Organic fertilizers, composting and paca digestora silva
- Water harvesting, irrigation system and solar exposure (water budget and micro-harvesting of water by plants)
The courses are free of charge for participants and are being held by Colombian trainers in Spanish language.
The participants can apply to attend one or more training courses, aimed at a maximum of 20
citizens of the municipality of Barranquilla (Colombia) interested in learning or deepening their knowledge of horticultural techniques.
Each course has a duration of 2 days each (16 hours), and the participant must commit to participate in the two full days.
The first Gardeners´ Training will take place in in Barranquilla (Colombia) during the period between 4th November and 4th December 2022 for different dates in this range.
