New GenerACTOR pedagogical toolkit available!
We are excited to share the GenerACTOR Compendium: “Herramientas y Fichas Pedagógicas”, a vibrant collection of practical activities and learning sheets developed through community experiences in urban gardens in Barranquilla, Colombia.
This resource includes 18 tools designed to foster environmental awareness, social inclusion, and hands-on learning, from vermicomposting and natural pigment extraction, to community entrepreneurship and soil regeneration through local plants.
Urban community gardens are at the heart of GenerACTOR: not just places to grow food, but spaces for learning, cooperation, and collective care, true common goods.

The Concept Plan for Community Gardens and Productive Parks in Barranquilla offers a strategic and replicable framework for urban agriculture at both local and international scales. The plan translates principles discovered by GenerACTOR (funded by European Union) about community gardens, agroecology, climate resilience, social inclusion, and integrated green infrastructure into practical guidelines for designing, implementing, and managing urban and peri-urban gardens. Conceived as a co-creation tool, the plan fosters active participation from local communities, empowering residents to shape and maintain gardens that serve as living ecosystems. Each garden promotes food security, education, entrepreneurship, social interaction, and inclusion, welcoming children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups. Designed for replicability, the Concept Plan provides standardized procedures, resource management strategies, and community engagement methodologies that can be adapted to other urban contexts. By integrating monitoring and evaluation tools, it ensures sustainable, impactful, and inclusive urban agriculture initiatives. In essence, the plan transforms public spaces into hubs of social innovation, environmental stewardship, and community resilience, offering a model that other cities worldwide can adopt and adapt.

In the framework of the project GenerActor – Community gardens as a GenerACTOR for good governance, active citizenship and participation”, supported by the European programme EuropeAid, the association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, open the fourth call for citizens who want to participate in the second cycle of “Gardeners’ Trainings” placed in Barranquilla starting in January 2024. The application deadline for the course “Business and Entrepreneurship” is the 30th of November 2024.
Parameters of the Project Gardeners´ Trainings
The course is part of component 1 of the GenerACTOR Project, which deals with capacity building and training in community gardens within the framework of the GenerACTOR transnational cooperation project, supported by the European program EuropeAid. This component is coordinated by the Italian social promotion association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, and is being carried out entirely in Barranquilla (Colombia) and in Spanish.
The participants could apply to attend one up to 2 training courses, aimed at a maximum of 30 citizens of the municipality of Barranquilla (Colombia) interested in learning or deepening their knowledge of horticultural techniques.
The course has a duration of 1 day each (8 hours), and the participant must commit to participate in the full course, all day.
This second Gardeners´ Training will take place in Barranquilla (Colombia) during the 2024 in for different dates in this range.

Are you a teacher or school principal passionate about using community gardens as educational spaces? The GenerACTOR cooperation project invites you to apply for the “Gardeniser EDU” training course! Applications are open extended until August 2, 2024!
🗓 Dates: September 2-5, 2024
🕗 Time: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
📍 Location: Hotel El Prado and Colegio Mixto de la Paz, Barranquilla
Join us for 32 hours of intensive training on community urban gardens, project planning, and practical activities!
💼 Requirements:
- Must have a teaching assignment in priority or adjacent project areas.
- Interest in developing educational activities in community urban gardens.
- Commitment to complete the entire 4-day training program.
🔍 Preferred:
- Schools with existing gardens or those motivated to develop garden activities.
- Priority given to individuals from vulnerable, ethnic, and/or migrant communities.

GenerACTOR is pleased to announce a call for participants for the upcoming training course on community gardens (Gardeniser TEC-GOV). This course is designed specifically for public officials from agencies in the District of Barranquilla.
Details of the Training Course:
- Dates: September 2, 3, and 4
- Time: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Total Hours: 24 hours
- Participants: 15
- Location: Hotel El Prado, Barranquilla
The training aims to enhance the skills of 15 officials from the Mayor’s Office of Barranquilla. Priority will be given to those in departments involved in environmental and social development, such as urban and environmental development, food security, social development, economic development, risk management, public policy, and education.
This initiative is part of Component 1 of the transnational cooperation project GENERACTOR, supported by the European program EuropeAid. The Italian association for social promotion REPLAY NETWORK aps, based in Rome, coordinates this component on behalf of the project consortium. The entire course will be conducted in Spanish.

In the framework of the project GenerActor – Community gardens as a GenerACTOR for good governance, active citizenship and participation”, supported by the European programme EuropeAid, the association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, open the second call for citizens who want to participate in the second cycle of “Gardeniser PRO” placed in Barranquilla starting in June 2024. The application deadline is the 7th of June 2024.
Parameters of the Gardeniser PRO Trainings
The course is part of component 1 of the GenerACTOR Project, which deals with capacity building and training in community gardens within the framework of the GenerACTOR transnational cooperation project, supported by the European program EuropeAid. This component is coordinated by the Italian social promotion association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, and is being carried out entirely in Barranquilla (Colombia) and in Spanish.
The participants could apply to attend the course, aimed at a maximum of 19 citizens of the municipality of Barranquilla (Colombia) interested in become a “Garden Organiser”.
The training course consist of 5 days training (40 hours) plus an internship of 5 days: the participant must commit to participate in the full process of the course in order to get their license.
The training will take place in Barranquilla (Colombia) from June 27th to July 1st, in the “Universidad del Norte”

An integral part of the training course is an internship in an urban garden in Colombia (6 days) or in Italy (12 days) in which the Gardeniser can apply the knowledge acquired in the process
The Training has a duration of 5 days (40 hours), and the participant must commit to participate in the five full days and in the internship.

Analysis of 20 urban urban community gardens in the main cities of Colombia: Bogotá, Cali e Medellín (2022). The mapping document was carried out with the purpose of profiling the dynamic and multiple reality of urban community gardens in Colombia in order to know the various existing typologies, extrapolate the keys of good practices, compare and/or integrate them with the experience of European gardens to approach a model of urban community garden relevant to the Colombian reality that can sustain the intervention and implementation strategy of the new gardens in the city of Barranquilla in the light of the GenerACTOR approach “Community gardens for good governance, active citizenship and participation” (project co-funded by European Union).

In the framework of the project GenerActor – Community gardens as a GenerACTOR for good governance, active citizenship and participation”, supported by the European programme EuropeAid, the association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, is looking for trainers who will be part of a team that will implement the “Gardeners’ Trainings” placed in Barranquilla (Colombia). The application deadline is the 30th of September
This call is aimed at collecting expressions of interest of trainers able to carry out one or more of the 16 training courses foreseen for the action “Gardeners’ Trainings” lasting 2 days (16 hours), addressed to 15/20 citizens of the Municipality of Barranquilla (Colombia) interested in learning or deepening horticultural techniques. The training courses will take place between the end of the year 2022 and all along the year 2023. The courses are part of Work Package 1 dealing with Community Gardens Capacity Building and Training within the transnational cooperation project GENERACTOR, supported by the European programme EuropeAid. This action is coordinated by the Italian social promotion association REPLAY NETWORK aps based in Rome, on behalf of the project consortium, and it is carried out entirely in Barranquilla and in Spanish language.
