PRESS RELEASE December 3, 2022

From 28 November to 2 December 2022, a delegation from ANCI Lazio, coordinator of the cooperation project “GenerACTOR – Community gardens as a GenerACTOR for good governance, active citizenship, and participation“, co-funded by the European Union through the Development Cooperation Programme, took part in a study visit to the pilot area at the city of Barranquilla, in Colombia. The purpose of this visit was to explore future pilot areas and strengthen strategies for  the participatory approach through ULG (Urban Local Group), according to the URBACT methodology, of which Risorse per Roma has gained long experience, in order to reduce the levels of poverty and food insecurity of the most vulnerable communities (in particular migrants),  contributing in the long term to promoting the inclusion and sustainability of urban development in the city of Barranquilla in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Green Deal.

The programme of the study visit included a series of activities aimed at enhancing collaborative efforts between international partners. Participants took part in various events and discussions throughout the week, visiting the neighbourhoods that will host the urban community gardens, in Lipaya, Las Gardenias, La Paz and Juan Mina respectively, as well as meeting and talking with the communities of citizens in these neighbourhoods.

During  the  working sessions, the participants had the opportunity to interact with the local authorities, i.e. the representatives of the city of Barranquilla, Siembra Mas (committed to the maintenance of green areas and environmental services), Barranquilla Verde (public body that promotes, directs and regulates the protection of natural resources and environmental sustainability, as a guarantee of the quality of life of citizens), community leaders representing the pilot districts  and experts  belonging to the Local Support Group, in order to obtain information on the development of the GenerACTOR project and create the best operational synergies between partners. The study visit confirmed the great commitment of the municipal administration towards integrated sustainability and community urban agriculture.
